But first what’s CSS?

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a style sheet language used for describing the presentation of a document written in a markup language(Wikipedia).
Web designers and front-end developers use CSS to control the color, layout, and fonts of a web page.

Sounds serious? Not so, according to this CSS Puns and Jokes site curated by Saijo George. It turns out developers are not just all about syntax and semantic programming,; they can be damn funny too.

I decided to take a jab at these CSS puns by mashing it up with Singapore icons, culture and idiosyncrasies because I want to make every web designer smile — island-wide. And even if you are not a front-end developer or don’t have any clue about CSS, you will still get the meaning and enjoy these puns!

Let the puns begin.

1. Merlion

When you have way too much fun on a Friday night, the aftermath is also called a Merlion — CSS overflow.

2. Hungry Ghosts

You will see this every seventh month of the year. Technically you won’t see anything — CSS visibility.

3. SBS Bus

The best thing that greets you on rush hour. — CSS line-height.

4. SMRT Trains

You don’t want this to happen during rush hour. — CSS position.

5. Marina Bay Sands

An infinity pool with a skyline view, a three-of-a-kind architectural marvel.
CSS column-count.

5. Parking Fees

You can really feel the swooshing sound… on your wallet — CSS transform.

6. Eagle eyes

For those who use parking coupons, beware! — CSS cursor.

7. Sweet Snacks

A layered rainbow cake perfect for coffee breaks — CSS gradient.

8. Outstanding Statesman

You can spot him outside standing around tall buildings in the CBD area. Sir Stamford Raffles has a lot of breathing space — CSS margin & CSS colors.

And, finally

10. 100% must queue

Everyone queues to get food, queues to get seats, queues to enter the MRT: queuing can be a national sport — CSS max-width.

That’s all for now. I’ll be continuing this series on my Instagram account: instagram.com/meeetchopzhex/
